Characters from Books: Neville Longbottom

Neville is an awesome character. For six books, he was basically the same. He slowly learned about the things that he liked to do. For example, he began to excel at herbology somewhere along the way. But in the 7th book, we learned why he was sorted into Gryffindor. He suddenly became this very brave person and helped destroy one of the horcruxes. This didn't come out of the blue, either. In the first book, he stood up for what he believed in, so when knew he had it in him.

But Neville's character has kind of always been awesome. He helped Harry with the Tri-Wizard tournament, he's a bit of a stud when it comes to dancing, and he's Gryffindor! Come on!



It also helped that his character developed really well in the movies, and there are MILLIONS of memes about that, and I love all of them. And I'm usually not one to talk about how attractive someone is, but this guy is better than the boy who lived. He is the boy who kicked puberty's butt.

A-Z Marathon! Characters from Books: Zu

So, Zu is basically mute. She just chooses not to speak.
She's a yellow, which I think is cool because you don't really see many yellows in this book. It's kind of like the hufflepuff of colors--it's just kind of there. Well, greens are more hufflepuff, I suppose.
Anyway, I love Zu. One thing that I like is that she is a really unique character. There are rarely any mute characters or characters who just don't speak in literature, YA especially. Every character seems to either be outspoken and brave or shy and mysteriously awesome. But she was bald (well, she had her head shaved) and didn't talk so we couldn't get a huge sense of her personality, but at least we know why she doesn't talk (thanks to Ruby). She was also really adorable and how the author described her actions just gave her enough personality. How she reacted when she got the pink gloves and saw the dress in the store :)
But then, Zu just leaves. And she tells (you know what I mean) Ruby that she has something to say to her when they meet each other again. So, cliffhanger. Sadness. Sadness.

And hey, you guys on Tumblr, WHERE IS OUR FANDOM FAN ART? Serious! There are basically no drawings of Zu. We only have gifs of crying and the occasional picture of an actress with "Ruby" written on the picture. No! Do your jobs!

A-Z Marathon! Characters from Books: Xenophilius Lovegood

At least I can count on you, JK Rowling!

Literally nothing else starts with X. Just think about it.

So, we'll have to stick with this.

Xenophilius Lovegood is not a major character. He made an appearance in one book, and that was really it. He's Luna's dad, but Luna wasn't a really major character either. She's my favorite character, though.
Anyway, he's the editor of the quibbler magazine. *Fun fact, Xenophilius derives from the word xenophile, which is someone who is attracted to aliens and other word creatures, and his obsession with nargles and all that jazz just explains his name.
Anyway, he wrote real nice stuff about Harry in the quibbler during that whole "VOLDEMORT IS NOT BACK, YOU IDIOT!" thing. However, Death Eaters stole Luna and Xeno just said "Screw it. I'm going to save my daughter."

Anyway, minor character, but his name starts with X.

Deal with it.

A-Z Marathon! Characters from Books: The Quagmire Triplets

**LEAVE IF YOU HAVE NOT READ A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS!

The only other option was Quidditch Through the Ages, but what would I say about that? What would I say to make a lengthy and detailed post about that?

I read this entire series twice and I still love these books.
So, for those of you who have forgotten, the Quagmire twins, Duncan and Isadora, were introduced into the series in The Austere Academy. They both had these notebooks that their parents, who died in a fire, gave them. Isadora was a poet, and she was really good at making couplets, which was major in The Vile Village. And Duncan was a journalist. Some messed up stuff happens in the next book, and then in The Vile Village, the Baudelaire orphans find these slits of paper that have couplets written on them. Basically, the couplets reveal a lot of clues about where the Quagmire twins are. The Baudelaire's caretaker helps the Quagmires escape, but let's just say it wasn't a happy ending. Sure, the Quagmire's got away, but it accomplished . . . nothing.
Two books later, the Baudelaire orphans are brought to some place that is a supposed secret headquarters and they meet Quigley Quagmire there, who the Quagmire twins thought died in the fire along with their parents, but managed to escape. There is a very subtle romance between Quigley and Violet, and I didn't notice it the first time I read the books.
Then, Quigley's gone after a series of unfortunate events, (word play) and it never really talks about the fate of the Quagmires, it's quite vague.

A-Z Marathon! Characters from Books: Peter Hayes

**Many, many Divergent, Insurgent and Allegiant spoilers. You have officially been warned.

Peter . . .
Not a very friendly guy.
Anyone who stabs someone's eye with a butter knife and tries to pretty much rape and kill a girl is generally not friendly. He constantly calls Tris a stiff and she shoots him.
In Insurgent, Peter acts less douchey. Yeah, he takes the disk, and Tris beats him up for it which leads to the funniest chapter ever, but he's still less douchey. I feel like he gained some respect for Tris.
And yeah, he saved Tris's life, which almost made me like him for a second. Then he ruined it by explaining his reasons for saving her.
In Allegiant, he makes friends with Caleb. Cool, I guess. Then, Peter just decides to erase his memory and forget he was a douche. The best thing he's done in the entire trilogy.
I just realized that the Divergent fandom is really lazy with their memes, so we only have two today.

A-Z Marathon! Characters from Books: Nymphadora Tonks

Well, Hufflepuff--you don't totally suck.
And I know that Tonks would be mad at me for calling her Nymphadora Tonks, so I'm sorry--it's for the purposes if this post.

Anyway, as we all know, Tonks married Remus Lupin (But Lupin rejected Tonks before, which caused Tonks to become depressed which changed her Patronus, and then Lupin got the nerve to marry Tonks--kind of a complicated love story between them which the books don't go into too much detail about) and died in the final book. Yay. However, she is survived by her son, who she gave birth too before going into battle to fight Voldemort. 50 points to Hufflepuff.



A-Z Marathon! Characters from Books: Gale Hawthorne

LEAVE IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE ENTIRE HUNGER GAMES TRILOGY

Okay.

Today, we'll be talking about Gale Hawthorne, from the Hunger Games.
Otherwise known as Thor's brother and the guy who tried to escape the friend zone and came close, but still failed.

I actually do not like Gale. I didn't like his character and SPOILER Katniss married Peeta anyway. That was the only thing about Mockingjay that I liked.

And please PLEASE don't turn this into Twilight. No Team Peeta or Team Gale. We can joke about it, though.

I don't know what the sorting hat was thinking when it sorted Edward Cullen into Hufflepuff.

Okay. I'm done with Twilight jokes now. Maybe not.

Characters from Books is a new segment that I created so I could actually do this marathon. Basically, we just talk about this character and make jokes about the character.

The casting in the movie of this character is the only reason that anybody really cares about Cedric Diggory. Also, he's the best Hufflepuff, and that's not saying much.
