A tribute to Hufflepuff

Poor, underrated Hufflepuff.

I took the sorting hat quiz . . .

Recently, I joined Pottermore after I found out that Luna Lovegood married some Quidditch player, and that originated from Pottermore, so I didn't want to miss out on anything.
I have already taken a sorting hat quiz, but not on Pottermore. It wasn't official unless it was Pottermore.

I was not sorted into Hufflepuff, luckily. My parents would have been very disappointed. They would have disowned me and sent me to live under the stairs for the rest of my life. If I would have been sorted into Hufflepuff, I would have been a disgrace to the family and they would hate me and probably tell everyone that I tragically died in a car accident on my way to Hogwarts to get sorted.

I'm not a Slytherin, and I've never identified as one. In the song that they sang during the sorting hat ceremony in the Sorcerer's (or Philosopher's, for you silly British people) Stone, it says that the Slytherins will go to any means to get what they want (paraphrasing). But I've never been like that. Take the hallways, for example. I never push or shove to get past people. I just find some spaces to walk in and if there's an opening for me to get by, I'll take it. But I would never run someone over to get past.

Now we're down to two: Ravenclaw and Gryffindor. I personally see myself as more of a Ravenclaw, but I don't really flaunt my knowledge. I never try to draw attention to it, and I think that Ravenclaws are very proud of their smarts. But, much like Hermoine Granger, who--despite her knowledge--was sorted into Gryffindor.

We are taught to like Gryffindor. Gryffindor is like, THE house, and most of our favorite protagonists come from this house. But I'm just not excited by Gryffindor. They're all basically jocks, and I'm an orchestra nerd. I suppose that standing up for myself and being different is a bit of a Gryffindor trait, but I'm still not a big Gryffindor.
It's better than Hufflepuff.

Characters from Books: Neville Longbottom

Neville is an awesome character. For six books, he was basically the same. He slowly learned about the things that he liked to do. For example, he began to excel at herbology somewhere along the way. But in the 7th book, we learned why he was sorted into Gryffindor. He suddenly became this very brave person and helped destroy one of the horcruxes. This didn't come out of the blue, either. In the first book, he stood up for what he believed in, so when knew he had it in him.

But Neville's character has kind of always been awesome. He helped Harry with the Tri-Wizard tournament, he's a bit of a stud when it comes to dancing, and he's Gryffindor! Come on!



It also helped that his character developed really well in the movies, and there are MILLIONS of memes about that, and I love all of them. And I'm usually not one to talk about how attractive someone is, but this guy is better than the boy who lived. He is the boy who kicked puberty's butt.

Book Talks: The Harry Potter series

If you have not read the Harry Potter series yet, you absolutely must. I don't care if it takes you fifteen years to read them. You have to.

I decided I would do a mini-book talk about the entire series. There will be spoilers, so if you haven't read the series yet, leave. And of course, if you've only read the first book, don't read the book talk for the second book, if you've read the second book, don't read the book talk for the third book, and so on.
Basically, read at your own risk.


Okay. If you're here, I'm guessing you've read the series or most of the series.

#1 Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone
This is the happiest book in the series. Besides learning the Harry's parents have died and all of that stuff about Voldemort, it's the happiest book. Even the cover's kind of quirky and childish. (In the best way possible)
Harry is just learning about the wizarding world, and he hasn't known about it until now. It's a really good book. Not my favorite in the series.
The beginning was hard to get past though. You had to read up to page 50 just for Harry to finally catch onto the fact that he's a wizard. Still really good book, really enjoyed it.




#2 Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Things start to get a little more serious here. Harry learns that Moaning Myrtle died and that Voldemort is slowly coming back and all of the students could be petrified or murdered by a snake at any moment. But the series isn't too dark yet. The cover of the book still looks like a children's book, it's only a little larger than the previous book. Again, it's not my favorite in the series, but they're all so amazing.





#3 Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
This is a good one. For one thing, Harry has a family member who was close with his parents! Yay. Also, there was a little more mystery regarding the time turner. I didn't know how Hermione was taking a million classes a day. (Magic! of course!) And I loved how they used the time turner in the end to save the hippogriff and Sirius. Also, Harry learns a lot in this book. In this book, we get to take a look into the magical world. We learn about dementors, patronuses, boggarts, and we learn that Draco is the most annoying person to ever exist.



#4 Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
This is almost everyone's favorite book in the series. It's not my favorite, but it's a super close second.
The cover looks a little more serious. Harry's lost some baby fat on his face, and all of the people in the background look angry and sophisticated. The Tri-Wizard Tournament is awesome. And . . . VOLDEMORT'S BACK! Loved this book. I remember shaking and choking on . . . air . . . as I was reading the end of this book. I was gasping and just . . . a wreck.




#5 Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
This is actually my favorite in the series. I really enjoyed it. Everyone says, "How can you like it? Sirius died!" but I just loved Dumbledore's army.
Although, I ABSOLUTELY HATE PROFESSOR UMBRIDGE. I WANTED TO REACH THROUGH THE PAGES OF THE BOOK AND STRANGLE HER. I love reading about book characters totally outsmarting the villains, and Hermione did that so well at about page 747. If you don't have a copy of the book within five feet of you, Hermione says something along the lines of, "We have to tell them where it's hidden, Harry!" Basically, she leads Professor Umbridge into the woods and she's murdered by centaurs. Yay!


#6 Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Not my favorite in the series. I don't remember a lot of the details because it wasn't as interesting to me. I do remember Harry kicking ass in potion's class, and that was awesome. And I loved how he brought up Ron's self-confidence and . . . oh, it was a good book. Not my favorite, though. Dumbledore dies, but I actually wasn't too sad.
The cover looks pretty serious, doesn't it?





#7 Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows

I don't want to talk too much about the Horcruxes or anything. I loved the action in this book and when Mrs. Weasley went all mama-bear on page 736. ("NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!")
I did not like Dobby's death. I was fine with almost everyone else dying in the series. But I was not fine with Dobby's death. AT ALL.
And I thought that Harry fixed the school with the Elder Wand. I thought he said "reparo" and then the school was just back to normal. I guess that didn't happen. Did it?
Now let's talk about the epilogue. Harry and Ginny get together. No surprise. Ron and Hermione get together. Again, not surprised. It doesn't say if Luna and Neville get together, but I'd like to think they do.
And the last sentence in the entire Harry Potter series is . . . "All was well."

A-Z Marathon! Characters from Books: Xenophilius Lovegood

At least I can count on you, JK Rowling!

Literally nothing else starts with X. Just think about it.

So, we'll have to stick with this.

Xenophilius Lovegood is not a major character. He made an appearance in one book, and that was really it. He's Luna's dad, but Luna wasn't a really major character either. She's my favorite character, though.
Anyway, he's the editor of the quibbler magazine. *Fun fact, Xenophilius derives from the word xenophile, which is someone who is attracted to aliens and other word creatures, and his obsession with nargles and all that jazz just explains his name.
Anyway, he wrote real nice stuff about Harry in the quibbler during that whole "VOLDEMORT IS NOT BACK, YOU IDIOT!" thing. However, Death Eaters stole Luna and Xeno just said "Screw it. I'm going to save my daughter."

Anyway, minor character, but his name starts with X.

Deal with it.

A-Z Marathon! Characters from Books: Nymphadora Tonks

Well, Hufflepuff--you don't totally suck.
And I know that Tonks would be mad at me for calling her Nymphadora Tonks, so I'm sorry--it's for the purposes if this post.

Anyway, as we all know, Tonks married Remus Lupin (But Lupin rejected Tonks before, which caused Tonks to become depressed which changed her Patronus, and then Lupin got the nerve to marry Tonks--kind of a complicated love story between them which the books don't go into too much detail about) and died in the final book. Yay. However, she is survived by her son, who she gave birth too before going into battle to fight Voldemort. 50 points to Hufflepuff.



A-Z Marathon! JK Rowling . . . I suppose . . . Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

So, as some of you may know, JK Rowling has a companion book to the Harry Potter series called Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. It's really cool and I love when authors do things like this. She also wrote another book called Quidditch Through the Ages, and it's really cool. This isn't really one of those books you read every page of. It is still a really cool thing to have. There's a sticker on the cover that says "Property of Harry Potter" and it says that it's written by Newt Seamander, and all of the detail that went into this book makes it really cool and special.

It's a great companion to the series and I recommend for all Harry Potter fans to own it.






As you may not know, a screenplay based off of this book is being written by JK Rowling, and it's going to be a movie.

Sigh . . .
I had to talk about JK Rowling eventually.
Do I even need to tell you that she wrote the Harry Potter series?
If I need to tell you what Harry Potter is, I will eviscerate you.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Harry Potter series. I wore a Quidditch t shirt today and I have this awesome Dobby t shirt and I own the entire series along with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Quidditch Through the Ages. I am a Harry Potter fan.

I just think that Harry Potter goes without saying. I don't feel like there's a need for me to talk about Harry Potter on this blog. So, because this is the Author of the Day segment, I'm just going to say that JK Rowling came up with a fantastic idea and made the most of it. So, because I'm guessing that you've read the entire series, here's some fandom art and memes below.
I know. I'm just mooching off of awesome and clever things that other people have made. Shame on me.
